Panattoni builds spec 548K-sq.-ft. Edmonton industrial

Panattoni’s Edmonton industrial portfolio is about to expand again, with the firm kicking off construction of what will be a state-of-the-art 548,124-square-foot building – on spec.

Kitchener, Ont. has gone through an impressive transformation over the past 20 years, as a decaying core and declining manufacturing base gave way to over $2 billion in downtown residential and commercial construction and a rapidly growing technology sector.

Upstart investment firm SageBlan Investments has spent about $160 million to buy and revamp four Quebec properties in the past 18 months, including the Vogue Montreal downtown. With another $40 million worth of renovations ongoing, SageBlan is already thinking about its next acquisitions.

Gairloch Developments has proposed a 34-storey condominium tower at 15 Hollis St., directly adjacent to Crosstown’s future Mount Dennis Station in Eglinton. The architects—Alliance-designed building would include 365 condominium units in a mix of 29 studios, 211 one-bedrooms, 90 two-bedrooms and 35 three-bedroom units.

A city deadline for the proposed $400-million redevelopment of Winnipeg’s Portage Place mall will be postponed to give Starlight Investments more time to seek federal funding. Starlight must now get its construction financing in place by Oct. 31 instead of July 23.

Banff continues to place roadblocks in front of the endeavour to rebuild Frank Lloyd Wright’s Park Shelter. Built in 1914 with Ottawa-based Francis Conroy Sullivan and demolished 1939 due to flood damage, it is an almost-200-foot long, Prairie style, multipurpose structure.

Dalfen Industrial announced the acquisition of a newly developed, three-building, 711,855-square-foot industrial park in the Seattle suburb of Tacoma, Wash. The property is in close proximity to I-5, SR-512, and the Port of Tacoma.

Demand for flexible workspace in the U.K. is up by 37 per cent year-over-year for the six months to June 17. The data from The Instant Group also shows that suburban markets are currently outperforming London with demand up by 39 per cent.
